Project Title: Common Good Cyber

Global Cyber Alliance

Details
Project Title Common Good Cyber
Project Topics Corporate Social Responsibility
Skills & Expertise
Project Synopsis: Challenge/Opportunity
Unlike most other infrastructure that underpins our lives, like roads and electric power, there are key services supporting the security of the Internet that rely on people and nonprofits working on shaky ground and razor-thin budgets. The goal of Common Good Cyber is to change this paradigm and provide reliable funding for cybersecurity in the public interest.
Project Synopsis: Activities/Actions Required
Common Good Cyber (https://commongoodcyber.org/) was launched at a workshop in Washington, D.C in February 2024 with over 100 stakeholders representing government, multilateral organizations, foundations, industry, civil society, academia and more than 200 people online. The workshop concluded with a call for a long-term, collaborative joint funding effort in cybersecurity. This will involve - among other activities - bringing together a diverse range of stakeholders to raise awareness about the importance of Internet security, highlighting the role nonprofits play in advancing it.

Project Synopsis: Expected Results
Our vision of success is that policymakers are more informed about how secure network conditions are maintained, and the contributions nonprofits, public interest organizations, and individuals make– with limited resources– to maintain the Internet’s security. By establishing strategic partnerships and implementing targeted outreach activities, this  effort will effectively reach and engage policymakers, raising awareness and driving action to support nonprofits in maintaining the security of the Internet. Additionally,  our vision of success is fostering stronger multi-stakeholder collaboration to address complex Internet security challenges more effectively.
Key performance indicators to measure impact include, but are not limited to:
  1. New governments and stakeholders engaged in Common Good Cyber initiative;
  2. Finance allocated to the Common Good Cyber initiative;
  3. Resources contributed to the Common Good Cyber initiative; and
  4. Speaking role at key events, fora, or media about the role of nonprofits, public interest organizations, and individuals in helping to  maintain the security of the Internet.
