| Project Synopsis: Challenge/Opportunity | NGO CSW NY envisions a world without sexism, sexual violence, or discrimination against women and girls in all their diversity; where economic, political, and social policies encourage their empowerment and wellbeing. NGO CSW NY is looking to hone our movement-building strategy as the primary global convenor of feminist civil society. Through strengthening our regional collaborations, capacities, and structures, identifying potential new regional partnership networks, and building off of our existing draft five-year strategic plan, we hope that an NYU Capstone team will help us strategically map our next five years of movement-building and development.
| Project Synopsis: Activities/Actions Required | Following a leadership transition in the summer of 2023, internal energy focused on collaborating a new office team and preparation for our annual conference, deprioritizing long-term strategic planning. Prior to this period of transition, NGO CSW NY began development of a 5 Year Plan articulating an organizational vision of expanded global partnerships and strengthened capacities of the global NGO CSW network. Now that NGO CSW NY’s new team is established and poised to build momentum, an NYU Capstone team would update/adjust the objectives in this draft strategic plan and operationalize the outlined goals by enhancing the incomplete or underdeveloped measurement & evaluation infrastructure with evidence-based Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). A primary goal for NGO CSW NY today is strengthening regional collaboration and movement building. There are NGO CSWs in Africa, Arab States/MENA, Asia Pacific, Geneva, Latin America & the Caribbean, and Vienna. Movement-building efforts would focus on collaborating with the regional NGO CSWs and identifying other strong potential NGO partners on global feminist advocacy priorities. The Capstone team would thus focus on network mapping; research on regional hubs for mobilization and potential partnerships in the regions that match our mission and vision, particularly NGOs that work on gender-based violence, ending discrimination against women and girls, and strategic UN engagement on gender equality issues.
| Project Synopsis: Expected Results | Project success would look like a) the creation of implementable, measurable recommendations on strengthening regional collaboration for movement-building, with a particular focus on incorporating methods of engagement into the plan, b) building out our 5 Year Strategic Plan draft c) the creation of a research-based network map of potential partners, and d) an internal evaluation of our current movement-building strategy. |
