New York City Children's Theater (NYCCT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering arts-based education programs that empower children facing homelessness, recent migration, and other challenges. Their programs are well-regarded for creating safe and consistent spaces for creativity, storytelling, and connection among young participants. However, a significant challenge that NYCCT faces is the need to evaluate the impact of their programs in a way that accurately reflects the dynamic and immediate nature of their work. Traditional evaluation methods, such as long-term tracking or standardized benchmarks, do not fully capture the depth and relational aspects of these programs.

The current challenge for NYCCT is finding a way to document growth, engagement, and community-building in a manner that is adaptive, strengths-based, and trauma-informed. Without a suitable evaluation approach, NYCCT may struggle to convey the full impact of their programs to partners and funders, potentially affecting their ability to secure ongoing support and resources. This gap presents an opportunity for NYU Wagner students to apply their expertise in social impact strategy, policy evaluation, and impact measurement to develop innovative evaluation frameworks that address this challenge.

The project will be divided into key phases: understanding the existing programs and participant needs, researching and designing adaptive evaluation methods, and creating strategic plans for implementation and stakeholder communication. Each phase will involve collaborative efforts between students and NYCCT to ensure that the evaluation strategies align with the organization's mission and program design. This project is ideal for students as it offers a unique opportunity to work on a real-world challenge that requires systems thinking and cross-sector collaboration, ultimately preparing them for careers in social impact and innovation.

Through this project, students will gain invaluable experience in developing actionable strategies that lead to sustainable social change. They will learn how to balance academic rigor with practical application, ensuring that their evaluation strategies deliver real business value to NYCCT while also fulfilling the academic program's learning objectives. By addressing the critical challenge of impact evaluation, students will contribute to strengthening NYCCT's ability to support vulnerable children and build a more equitable future for all participants in their programs.
