Founded in the 1970s by three Franciscan Friars seeking a solution to New York City's homeless crisis, they pioneered the concept of permanent supportive housing for the homeless with mental illness when they opened the first of their three residences in Chelsea, Manhattan in 1980. Today, they provide affordable, permanent housing coupled with on-site medical, psychiatric, wellness, and social services designed to help nearly 300 residents thrive.

CiC is a nonprofit serving Somerset County, New Jersey. Formed in 2013 in response to the opioid epidemic and a spate of local overdose deaths, CIC has two main pillars of focus: the prevention of youth substance use and community-based recovery support. Youth prevention efforts have focused on education about risks associated with early use of alcohol, nicotine, marijuana, and the lethal threat from fentanyl and opioids. Growing attention has been devoted to programs to build strong, mentally resilient youth empowered to choose non-use of all substances. CiC has grown into into a comprehensive recovery support provider offering Peer Recovery Support Services, mutual-support meetings, family support, workforce initiatives, wellness programming, community education, and Recovery Friendly Workplace initiatives.
