Project Title Measuring A Movement
Project Topics
Skills & Expertise
Project Synopsis: Challenge/Opportunity
Feeding America is committed to centering people with lived experience of food insecurity--our neighbors facing hunger-- within the movement to end hunger in the United States. Over the past few years, we have launched several initiatives and pilot programs aimed at engaging people with lived experience of hunger in advocacy work, as well as equipping the network of Feeding America food banks with the tools to do the same. As these programs grow and evolve, we're working on finding ways to better connect them into a more cohesive and strategic program, as well as how to measure success.
Project Synopsis: Activities/Actions Required
  • Work with Feeding America Advocacy and Community Engagement staff to learn about the goals and details of each neighbors initiative (Neighbors empowerment grants, Elevating Voices Power Summit, Neighbors Engagement Community of Practice, digital Neighbors Advocacy Community, and more).
  • Research and identify best practices for community engagement and advocacy for working with impacted populations, particularly in low-income/poverty-adjacent issues such as food insecurity, housing, public transportation, etc. Specifically - how to measure short-term progress in work that is innately long-term; effective qualitative measures for community engagement around inclusion, belonging, identification with social movements, etc.
  • Summarize and present findings and recommendations to Feeding America team and potentially other stakeholders (ie. community partners)
Project Synopsis: Expected Results
  • Identify KPIs - both qualitative and quantitative-  for neighbors' advocacy initiatives
  • Identify a structure of how to track relationships and development of individual neighbor-advocates
  • Outline a theory of change for how various neighbors' advocacy initiatives ladder up to one another and ultimately to our high-level goals for impact
