| Project Synopsis: Challenge/Opportunity | The Food Brigade is a well-established nonprofit organization dedicated to combating hunger in northern New Jersey through the operation of food pantries. The organization excels in community engagement and resource distribution; however, it faces a critical challenge in ensuring that individuals without reliable transportation can access these resources. The primary business challenge is the lack of reliable, affordable, and timely transportation for individuals experiencing food insecurity. This gap significantly impacts The Food Brigade's ability to fulfill its mission, as many individuals in need are unable to reach food pantries. This challenge not only affects the organization's operational efficiency but also limits its impact on the community. The current consequences of this challenge include missed opportunities to serve those in need, decreased client satisfaction, and an inability to fully leverage available food resources. It also highlights a broader systemic issue within the state’s food security efforts, where transportation is a key barrier to accessing food assistance. This project offers students the opportunity to tackle this challenge by researching and developing a transportation solution tailored to the needs of the community. Students will engage in phases of research, stakeholder analysis, solution design, and pilot testing, providing a comprehensive learning experience. For students, this project is ideal as it combines theoretical knowledge with practical application. They will gain valuable skills in consulting, policy analysis, operations, and stakeholder management. Additionally, this project is meaningful as it addresses a real-world challenge with significant social impact, providing students with a sense of purpose and relevance in their academic pursuits.
